About BETHANIE community

When Mother Marita HAARMANN, OSB was the Prioress (2004-2010), Bishop Philipp PÖLLITZER, OMI, invited the Tutzing Sisters to the Diocese of Keetmanshoop. However, the Sisters were, at that time, unable to follow the invitation. But the Bishop did not give up requesting the Sisters to come to his diocese. Eventually, the Sisters agreed to have a look at the place which the bishop was offering to them, a former mission station. In 2017, Mother Prioress Mary Thomas PRADO, OSB, and her councils went to see the place at Bethanie, and they decided to take over the mission station which had been formerly occupied by the MSC Sisters. On 22 August 2019, the first two Tutzing Sisters, Sr. Pelagia EVULA, OSB and Sr. Margareta Mary SHINTANGO, OSB, were sent to Bethanie. The new place was at first regarded as an “Outreach” of the Priory House. The Sisters were blessed with a resident priest in the person of Fr. Eugene BADTKE, OSB, a Benedictine monk of Inkamana Abbey, who arrived at Bethanie on 24 September 2019.

The apostolates of Bethanie community are: teaching in the kindergarten, home visiting, praying the rosary with the parishioners. If someone is sick, the Sisters are called to go and pray with them. They provide counseling to the people who have problems, such as married people who have misunderstanding. People are really grateful and happy to have the Sisters at Bethanie again whom they missed for some years now. In 2025, Bethanie community has opened its Camp Site, where visitors can go and have some relaxing time.
